With immediate effect users of Ferrotec seals profit from uncomplicated customs clearance
AEO certification acknowledges an additional plus for Ferrotec
Reinfeld May 2010
Due to its certification as “Authorised Economic Operator” and with immediate effect Ferrotec is able to contribute even more to the safeguarding of the continuous international supply chain. As developer and producer of the most varied indicative, security and high security seals the company based in Reinfeld has now been certified by German customs as an “Authorised Economic Operator” (AEO). As a result, Ferrotec is regarded as particularly reliable and trustworthy in all 27 member states, which in turn leads to privileges during customs clearance. Thanks to the mutual recognition of the security criteria of the “Authorised Economic Operator”, AEO, of the EU and the American customs partnership programme C-TPAT that has existed since 2009, preferred passage through customs has an effect right into the USA.
As leader for the quality and competence of security seals and due to its AEO status, Ferrotec guarantees its customers even more security and reliability when exporting sealed transport goods: Guido Jasmund, Ferrotec’s product manager explains: “When our containers go through customs, presentation of the AEO certification in connection with the respective certificate leads to uncomplicated, swift handling. Our company is in possession of the AEO Simplification under Customs Law / Security Certificate (AEO S) that includes all offered advantages and simplifications.” The status of “Authorised Economic Operator” is not subject to any time restrictions.
Background on the AEO
Increasing globalisation and the modified international security situation have prompted the World Customs Organisation (WCO) to set up a “Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade” (SAFE) to create worldwide basic conditions for modern and effective risk management in customs authorities. Companies based in the European Union and involved in customs events have been able to apply for this status since 1 January 2008. Among other things, it is checked in the process whether the applicant is able to provide evidence of compliance with customs regulations in the past, an impeccable bookkeeping and logistics system, financial solvency and a high degree of security measures within the company as well as in dealing with business partners and service providers.
The objective of the “Authorised Economic Operator” (AEO) certification is to safeguard the continuous international supply chain from the manufacturer through to the end consumer. The negotiations that are currently underway with third countries such as China or Switzerland are pushing for worldwide recognition of the AEO status.
